Phuket, Thailand

After the bustling city of Bangkok, the laid back island feel of Phuket (pronounced “Poo Ket”) and its surrounding islands was just what we needed.

Only an hour flight from Bangkok, Phuket is in the southern part of Thailand and is the largest island in Thailand. While most people think “beach” when they hear Phuket, 70% of this beautiful island is actually covered by mountains.

Phuket is home to many movie sets. If you have ever seen the 1999 movie “The beach” with Leonardo DiCaprio or really majority of the James Bond movies, you will probably remember the striking limestone cliffs surrounded by sparkling blue water.

Our first activity in Phuket was an authentic Thai cooking class. Under the guidance of our head chef, we were able to create traditional Thai dishes such as green papaya salad, green curry, Phuket Stir fry noodles, and fried banana for dessert. This class was amazing and the food was even better. We can not wait to recreate these dishes for our friends and family when we come home!

Our next day, we were ready to go out and explore the Phi Phi Islands. With its postcard perfect beaches and crystal clear waters, we knew we were in for an amazing day. We hoped from island to island, snorkeling in the marine and walking along the beach.

After our jammed packed day exploring the Phi Phi Islands, we were ready for some relaxation! We woke up early and a visited a spa for a traditional Thai massage. And while we haven’t been to many spas before, this one has set the bar astronomically high!

After an amazing spa morning, we relaxed by the pool, savored tropical cocktails, reminisced our last adventure, and recharged our energy to take on our last night in Thailand.

Located 40 mins away from our hotel is Old Town Phuket. Old Town a is Portuguese inspired charming town that displays many colorful colonial buildings along its narrow streets.

On Sundays, they are home to the famous weekly Sunday Night Market. Naturally, we knew we needed to check it out. To avoid traffic, save money, and just because it is way cooler (sorry mom and dad) we decided to take a 4$ Grab bike. Similar to any ride share app, here you order a driver, hop on the back of their motor bike, and drive with them like a local… and it was both exhilarating and AMAZING.

At the Market we browsed the many trinket stands and big selection of street food. We must have gotten everything in sight and only spent 7 USD. We may have left in a food coma but we are ready for our next travel day!

Though we are sad our time in Thailand is over, we are so excited to continue our journey to Cambodia!
